My Sandi (not pictured here) speaks to me with her eyes. She rarely barks but she communicates by staring and by knocking my hand with her snout. She's a terrier mix from the shelter and is an incredible dog. Mandy pictured here died 4 years ago. Sh…
What is your dog's breed? (If you have more than one dog, please list a name followed by breed.)
Princess is a miniature poodle rescued from the animal shelter on Aug. 23, 2008 - a few days before she was to be euthanized.
About Me:
I lost my shepherd mix Mandy 3 years ago at age 16. She was the love of my life. I have been volunteering at the city animal shelter for about 4 months. I became familiar with Princess who was surrendered by her owner who didn't have time for her. She is blind, deaf and has a serious heart condition. I am a retired public health nurse with a deep love for all animals.
What is one thing your dog does that reminds you to open your heart and love more deeply?
To look into the eyes of my blind Princess and try to imagine what she is feeling in this dark, silent world of hers. It brings tears to my eyes to realize that these problems didn't need to be. She is a courageous little girl who still explores and sniffs and loves her beef sticks.
I want to say you are WONDERFUL!!!!
I was just looking thru the Rescue Dog section of this website & saw your comment about Princess.
My girl Chia lost her hearing & her sight in 2006 and it took a little bit of time for us to adjust to it & then she seemed to be ok with it. She still had quite a bit of life in her & I'm glad for every moment we had together.
She passed away on June 31, 2008 - The last 3 months of her life were so tough - she lost control of her bowels daily & howled in the middle of the night. I did everything in my power to keep her comfortable & make her last days as good as possible. Although it was tough, I wouldn't have traded that time with her for anything.
I hope you have many more good days with your Princess!
