Dayna, your friend Beth and her dog Gidget are in my prayers. I hope Gidget recovers well! I know your friend Beth is probably beside herself with worry. We are praying for them!

Judy, I have read that before and I love it. It's one of my favorite tales. It is such a simple truth if you think about it.

Linda, Niki LOVES bitter apple. I tried it when she was a pup to keep hem from chewing shoes, etc. She thought it was the BEST tasting stuff EVER! Still have about 1/2 bottle left around here somewhere....

VISIONS OF DOG POOP DANCE IN MY HEAD (Highlights of a doggie Mom's day)

I can write this here, because those of you reading this will understand. A brief recent look into our household for those of you who do not live here. We have 3 dogs, Maeson, Grisa and Nikita (aka Niki). All 3 dogs LIVE in the house. They are FAMILY, our forever-toddler children. They romp and play outside when we are out with them. If we are in the house, chances are they are right here beside us. They use the bathroom outside in the morning, after we arrive home from work, after they have din… Continue

Dogs Know!

My first experience with knowing that dogs know mortality was in 1996. When my Dad died I had Bandit. Bandit witnessed the collapse of my Dad. Mom remembers Bandit howling in the front yard when my Dad collapsed on the front porch of their vacation home..I don't remember that. However, I do know when I returned from the hospital, where I had ridden in the ambulance with Dad, I went into my bedroom there at the house where Bandit was. I got on the floor with him and told him "Grandpa's gone...he'… Continue

Memories

13 months, 17 days and about 5 hours since we lost Mouta and my husband and I now smile and laugh when remembering her, rather than tearing up at the mere mention of her name(although there are still tears at times). She was such a GOOD dog, silly and fun and loved life and taught us so much.

Of course we have our favorite stories. One has to do with the a pizza round. We had one of those rising crust pizzas for dinner one night. Somehow, I'm not quite sure how, the round cardboard did not get… Continue

Away from home...Grisa makes me laugh!

I have to share this story. My Mom recently had knee replacement surgery. I was there for about 10 days, taking Nikita & AK with me. I brought her dog back home with me when she went to rehab. I was only home for about a week and a half before I went back, this time taking only her dog & AK (our cat). I was at her house taking care of her for nearly 2 weeks when she came home from rehab (she lives 2 hours away from us). My husband stayed home with our 3 dogs. When I returned home after n… Continue

but do I wait until she is so so sick. I mean I know she is terminally ill, but sometimes I think I need to let her go on a day when she is feeling ok and not horrible. Is that crazy?
I went to the holistic vet yesterday for accupuncture. Willow really likes that. She noticed that her lymph nodes are swollen in her hind legs. I can't imagine that is good news. We were talking about how her hind end is weak right now. It is heartbreaking. She was always such an athletic dog. She could jump the height of 3 hay bales and liked to ride down from the hay shed on top of the bales. She would zoom around and steal the other dogs toys so they could chase her. Now it is an ordeal to walk from the house to my barn. She has aged 5 years in a month.
I sometimes wonder how long I can make her do this for me. I tell her a lot that it is ok for her to go. But she still struggles on.
A friend just recently put her dog down due to bone cancer. On the day she did it, she looked at him and told her husband "I never wanted this for him". I hate watching my athletic super energetic dog hobble to the barn and struggle to get up to greet me.
Really how much longer can she do this.

Hi, little Pablo is back home. He is not himself. He is really sad, unresponsive and lethargic. I don't know what to do. I am an emotional mess. He is too young and was extremely active and very, very happy. Now, well, his little light is dim. Please help me get the strength to support him and please, pray that he brightens up. We have an appointment with the neurologist again on Friday. Let's hope for a miracle! Thank you all and you doggies remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the welcome Lynn.
My dog Willow was diagnosed with cancer that had matastiszed to her lungs just 3 weeks ago. We don't even have a clear picture of where is originated. Her chest xray is just crappy bad. The vet gave her weeks. She didn't show me any signs. Believe me, I am with her everyday and I should have seen something. This girl is my heart, so of course I an devestated.
We decided due to the advanced nature of her cancer to not do radiation or chemo. I have gone to a great holistic vet who has perscribed 4 traditional chinese herbals, fish oil and vitamins A,C,E and selinium. I will say that she is more comfortable and brighter since we have started. She is also on a low carb high fat diet. Cancer cells grow on carbs, but not fat, so.......
We are just marking time now. Walks by the river and hamburgers.

Yep that is my Frosty! She was and still is my life....I couldnt deal with the void either and I am single...and she was all I had...my best friend...my companion! I cried and cried...it felt like my heart was ripped out of my body! Although I know she is out of pain and suffering because that cancer was eating my baby so rapidly....I feel that there is nothing in this life thats really worth it. Maybe in time it will heal a bit....but I know she will always live in my heart.

Hi Lynn,
Our guys are American Cockers and about 2 months ago Belle (11) was diagnosed with breast cancer - diagnosis poor. That was a shock to say the least so we pulled ourselves together and set out to help her as much as we could. She had a tumor removed and then our Vet. really helped out by finding an animal hospital that dealt with cancer. Belle has had 2 rounds of a 3 step cemo and a regiment of holistic treatments. Right now she seems happy, playful and full of energy. I don't know what lies ahead but I'm thankful she is still with us today. If anyone has any advise for us please let me know. Of course we want her to be with us as long as possible but her quality of life is also a major concern.
Thanks for listening,
Donna

Well, yesterday (April 21) was a milestone, of sorts for us. It was the 1st anniersary of Mouta's last radiation treatment. It was a bitter-sweet day...remembering how good it felt for her and us to be done with that and remembering how GOOD Mouta felt. Acting like a puppy again. Sad that she is not physically with us to celebrate. Mouta lives on in our hearts and we are grateful for the months we had with her. Time that we woud not have had had we been led down a different road. I think God took us on that journey for a reason and I'm SO glad
