I pray every day for all of our dogs. My Ceili is fine right now. She just passed her checkup. But she (we!) have to get an a.m. urine sample to her wonderful veterinarian soon, because of her history of bladder stones. I'm a tiny bit worried but re…

Profile Information

What are your dog(s) names and ages:
Ceili-- She turned 4 on June 21.
What is your dog's breed? (If you have more than one dog, please list a name followed by breed.)
Ceili is a Shih-Tzu/Maltese mix.
About Me:
I have had dogs all my life, and they have held me together through many of the darkest moments. I work as a college counselor/teacher.
Also, I am computer-illiterate and fear this is a duplicate sign-up. But this is the email I'm using now, not the other one.
What is one thing your dog does that reminds you to open your heart and love more deeply?
Her unconditional love for me and the many ways she demonstrates it!

Puppylove in Snowtime

I've lived in Buffalo NY most of my life, and so am used to the cold (and it isn't usually really all that cold! It's the wind that can creates the chill). Happiness really is a warm puppy, and my girl has a jacket and a few sweaters for when we'll go out to make snow angels! Ceili reminds me of how blessed I've been--especially by my other doggy loves who have gone on. If my work and health permit, Ceili will become a "therapy dog". Not very long ago a relative was in a nursing facility, and Ceili's visits were the high point of the residents' day. I could have just waited in the car! I wonder if anyone in the Buffalo NY area knows of a training/certification course for dogs to become "official" hospital/nursing home visitors...
James and Molly--I am so happy for you and the imminent additions to your family. Maui is with you. Our long distance, Internet connection is one of the things for which I am very grateful. I am looking forward to expanding this circle of love and friendship. Helen (and Ceili, who is holding down the couch)

Miracles Happen

Around one year ago, a woman in my neighborhood lost her small Italian Greyhound. She was new to Buffalo then. I have never seen such dedication and perseverance in trying to find a lost pet. She placed ads, posters, online posts, classified ads, bulletin boards, etc. everywhere looking for him. At one point I emailed her to say I would be on the lookout. I always have a spare leash and doggy treats in my car, and also on walks.
A year has passed. She has begun her search once more. This makes p… Continue

Ceili receives a Blessing

Well, my girl had another new experience this week.I took her to a Pet Blessing at my Church. The Blessing is in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. Ceili is very social, and she has never had so many dogs "hit" on her! She kept looking over to me, as if to ask whether all this flirting was OK. It was too funny (or maybe you had to be there...) I've got to find her a play group!
On a different note, I feel so badly and ashamed about not following the "Prayers for My Pup" group. I have had many losse… Continue

Street Angel, House Devil!

Whenever Ceili and I go visiting, she never, ever begs. She is a canine "Miss Manners"! But...at home she believes she has a legal right to half of each of my meals!
I don't keep in touch as much as I'd like, and have little computer skill. Hopefully I'll be more active in the near future.
'Night!

Ceili, "RN"

I've been on sick leave for the past two weeks. At first Ceili seemed bewildered--why was I home ALL the time??? But then I believe she figured it out. More puppy kisses! More lap time! And she was a most gracious hostess to to the visiting nurse and physical therapist! I'm returning to work on Monday. I think I'd better leave the house for a few hours today and tomorrow so she can get used to being "off duty"!
